Dear visitors,
The 10th World Congress of the Organization of World Heritage Cities will be held in Quito, on September 8, 9, 10 and 11, 2009.
This major meeting coincides with two historic facts that are critically important for our city. We will celebrate the 31st anniversary of the inscription of Quito, which was the first city classified on the cultural world heritage list, as well as the bicentennial of our independence.
Quito, the young, dynamic and diverse city, proudly looks at its historic and cultural wealth and has a deep sense of belonging. UNESCO’s recognition entails a great degree of responsibility shared by both the authorities and the citizens.

Quito, the thousand-year old city, is now embarking on a new era. With the challenges of the XXIst century, the Quito citizens will make a democratic effort to generate an exceptional quality of life in order to make room for a culture of equity and human respect, and to create opportunities and facilitate the exercise of our rights.
The OWHC World Congress will be the ideal place to share our experiences in the field of restoration of heritage property and recovery of public spaces. You will be able to discover our traditions and the hospitality of the citizens.
You are invited to share our visions and to find out more about our city of Quito, the light of America.
